i have character attachment issues
as someone who has only seen the remake and is now going to rush to watch the original:
this is such a brilliantly written anime. after watching the first few episodes you’re like “okay.. this is going to be a fun little slice of life it seems!” and everything feels a bit silly and superficial. and then the plot thickens. and thickens and thickens and thickens.

this is the kind of movie that can easily be summed up in a single sentence without having to condense much of anything. the premise is really good and i think it offers fodder for a hearty discussion about ethics, but that being said i think this would have been much more enjoyable as a lord of the flies- or 1984-esque novel. perhaps it’s simply an issue of execution, but as a film it really felt like nothing was happening…
