Jordan Peele said he set out to create a spectacle, and boy did he do just that. He's one of the most bold studio directors currently in the business (you have to be one bold mf to name your movie Nope) and his approach to this story is therefore quite unique. Someone who knows me or has read my Taste of Cherry review (or both) knows I'm an optimistic person. I spent the entirety of the flashbacks - which is 90% of the movie - thinking "this is really boring, but there's nice shots and I hope this is all brilliantly setting up stuff that will blow my mind later" but then none of that happened. They shot part of this very close to where I live last summer. That was much before the Oscar nominations, which means this is not the "worst movie ever" that he plans to make.

I do think that this will be pretty bad though.

Update: I have now seen it. I was right.
