The Mystery of Rampo

The Mystery of Rampo ★★★½

A nicely made and atmospheric piece of work where fantasy merges with reality, pulling the viewer deep into novelist Edogawa Rampo’s world of murder, mystery, intrigue, and a little bit of magic.
The film not only beautifully captures Japan in the late 1920s with a lively ambience, it is also a fitting tribute to the man himself.
I’ve read some of Edogawa’s work and I was surprised by how much the feel of the film connected to how his novels made me feel.
