The Godfather: Part II

The Godfather: Part II ★★★★★

The Godfather Part 2 helps to continue the saga of the Corleone crime family, telling the back story of young Vito Corleone growing up in Sicily and in 1910s New York. The movie also follows Michael Corleone in the 1950s as he attempts to expand the family business into Las Vegas, Hollywood, pre-revolution Cuba and Florida. Michael ends up facing his own personal problems trying to keep his collapsing marriage from falling apart beyond repair and trying to keep the relationship between him and his brother intact.
I chose this movie because it helps to continue the epic saga of the Godfather. I enjoyed seeing the first movie to the point where I had to watch this one because I wanted to know what happened next. This film follows the events of the first film while also providing flashbacks to Vito Corleone’s childhood, such as when his father and later his brother were killed, and when he was hunted by the Mafia but ended up escaping on a ship heading for Staten Island. Michael in the movie is never able to come to terms that his father’s empire, in a way, was built on love and respect, and Michael ends up shaping his empire which his built on fear and violent treachery.
