I did see a tweet the other day about how we seem to have lost low budget trash. I do agree with thatโ€ฆwe once had Doris Wishman and Hershel Gordon Lewis and we donโ€™t really have any contemporary equals that I can name off the top of my head. I suppose now I can say for certain Damien Leone fits that mold but there is a catchโ€ฆ

As much as I hated the first Terrifier (which I would not reallyโ€ฆ

The first one is one of my all time favorite horror movies and this does not compare on almost any level, but damn it's definitely hornier. Whoever's idea the shower scene was... how was Folsom?

I regularly have nights more depraved than the contents of this movie.

This was lame and waaaay too clean.

What a way to de-elevate elevated horror. So wildly unsexy! If ur gonna hedge ur bets at least double-down on the horniness! Such a muted n muddy take, weirdly sanitised, wiping off the grime that gives this world texture. Get rid of like 75% of the monotonous hackneyed human stuff n add in 100% more cenobites (the maths tracks), uโ€™d have a semi-cool movie. Alas, this movie has about 75% human stuff and 15% cenobites (at a push), and so it is not cool. Sad!

i wouldโ€™ve been into a new hellraiser regardless, but i was really only excited for david brucknerโ€™s hellraiser. visually, he shines whenever the cenobites show up, but his voice is just nowhere to be found. so the result is pretty standard, lame script, modern legacy sequel glossiness.

speaking of lame script, someoneโ€™s really gotta figure out how to make the character thatโ€™s clearly in on it feel less obvious. one of these days.

You know all those scenes where the dimensions of a room twist and expand? Something similar happened in the editing room that turned a ninety minute film into one thatโ€™s two hours long. I donโ€™t know if I like the fact that the Cenobites are all flesh and no leather. They look a little bit too naked, and not in a fun way.

Was genuinely invested in the mystery and slow pace of the first hour, then it turned into Scooby Doo and everyone was running and screaming and there was a car chase and like.. what the fuck was this?

It was utterly gorgeous to look at, the use of colors and the practical effects work were astonishing, but this is so blatantly dry and redundant. The one heavily-featured mechanism of pain, Iโ€™ll call it, was haunting and made me cringe atโ€ฆ

Jamie Clayton is so fantastic as Pinhead. The source material describes Pinhead as an androgynous being with a feminine voice and Clayton embodies the character flawlessly, being seductive yet authoritative in every single scene she's in. She's a star, but I've known this since Sense8.

The Letterboxd Era Catch-Up 3: Steve Dies At The End

The Wolf of Wall Street isn't a film I particularly enjoyed, and not because of the usual reasons with a film this length of it just being too long. It's just not very good. At all.

It's a long celebration of complete twats making money that they haven't earned and snorting it all away or popping it with a glass of champagne aboard their yacht with their helipad on top.โ€ฆ

woo boy. i cannot say that i came into letterboxd looking to win friends and influence people today.

yes, i am about seven years and two million think-pieces too late in watching what is commonly considered to be scorsese's late career magnum opus. let's get this out of the way- this is by far his funniest, flashiest picture. (i laughed until i cried at certain points: thank you leo and jonah hill.) it's so devilishlyโ€ฆ
