Fantastic Mr. Fox

Fantastic Mr. Fox ★★★★½

In this great adaptation of Roald Dahl's classic Fantastic Mr. Fox, a suave and charming male fox attempts to raid three local farms; an act that sees the bitter farmers retaliate against the fox and his community.

For a start, the voice work is simply perfect. Clooney and Streep are great as the middle-aged married couple, while the supporting cast of Dafoe, Murray and Wilson do perform excellently. Secondly, the stop-motion animation is also wonderful and it is perfectly juxtaposed with the film's gorgeous scenery. Moreover, the script (adapted from Dahl's classic children's book) sees Anderson's typically dry humour resurface and with superb results, as it remains funny enough to charm and satisfy audiences of all ages.

While the voice work and animation may be the most appealing aspects of the movie, Fantastic Mr. Fox furthers its appeal, with Alexandre Desplat's incredible, Academy Award nominated score and a delightful soundtrack that features some classic tunes from the likes of The Rolling Stones and The Beach Boys. Anderson's direction is also great, which really heightens the beauty and elegance of the film's stop-motion animation. Fantastic Mr. Fox is also widely educational in its depiction of community, family, nature and unity, making this animated flick much more meaningful then it may seem on the surface.

VERDICT - A wonderfully quirky family adventure that sees Wes Anderson show a genuine talent for animation, courtesy of his superb visual prowess and the amazingly adept voice work. Fantastic Mr. Fox is a delightful return to classic animation.
