Very odd sleazy meta thriller that's about obsession with movies. Director Larry Cohen (king of the low budget genre movies) takes a winking approach to this Hitchcock riff with lots of showbiz humor and lethal shocks. Eric Bogosian plays a perfectly slimy director and is the film's standout. Zoe Lund is the female lead and since Ms. 45 was the only movie I had seen her in, it was genuinely surprising when she opened her mouth and her voice sounded…

This isn't John Carpenter's best film but it is his best looking film thanks to the amazing Dean Cundey. Saw this for the first time on the big screen and the striking giallo lighting mixed with the titular fog made for a newer appreciation. The movie still drags in the middle and I couldn't help but wonder why they didn't just have it all take place in one night. Also, the explanation for the fog isn't really necessary and the movie could've benefited with more mystery surrounding it. But I was enchanted by the creepy slow burn vibe of it all.

What can I say? I enjoyed this beautifully shot convoluted superhero nonsense. Before the film, I had some delicious AMC pretzel bites and a cherry slushie so I was well fed and in a good mood. The movie just poured over me and I had fun. During the boring middle section I just thought about how much I love AMC Stubs. What a great service!

The only thing worthwhile in this "movie" is the scene where an Oasis soundalike band is heard. It's like Smash Mouth covering Oasis and it's infinitely funny.
