The Hidden Fortress

The Hidden Fortress ★★★½

The movie that inspired "Star Wars" to a great degree is a funny and beautifully shot misadventure focusing primarily on 2 poor, greedy, dumbasses trying to escort too quite interesting people across war torn enemy encampments. They have no clue that these 2 are an AWOL princess and a seasoned general. The film, though containing some decent comedy at times, also contains some great action sequences and set pieces exhibiting so many on screen extras, it'll leave your jaw dangling in magical awe. Not every moment of the film is entertaining, as it begins to drag a bit during it's somewhat overstayed runtime.

However, the before its time cinematography and physical performances from the cast, most notably the bumbling duo, not only help carry a beautiful film, but they provide it with the very life it has surging through it. Plus, there's no Hayden Christianson superimposed in the end. That's a win for us all.
