“Bullitt” is mediocre movie with good intentions that’s built around a stunning car race that actually achieves them.
Much like “Easy Rider” one year later, “Bullitt” is more memorable for its iconography than notable for its quality.
But while the good cop/bad police force plot is less than passable, Steve McQueen is immortal. The second he straps on his white shoulder holster and gets into that Mustang GT — coolness never knew what it was until it smelled burning rubber.
