“Some people claim that the atrocities we commit in our fiction, are those inner desires which we cannot commit in our controlled civilisation, so they’re expressed instead through our art. I don’t agree. I believe heaven and hell are one in the same. The soul belongs to heaven and the body to hell.”

The House That Jack Built, directed by Lars Von Trier, starring Matt Dillon, follows our protagonist Jack, a psychopath, who recounts 5 murders/incidents he's committed over the…

    Extended Cut

Before I talk about the film itself, I want to first preface this review by saying that I don’t think that my last review of The Shining has really aged all that well. I don’t think it’s necessarily bad, but I think that it could’ve been much shorter and much more concise, given it’s 2000 word length, which in my opinion is simply too much to expect from people to read. Man this was fun. Yesterday I was shopping at Target, and while I was there, I spotted an Ash Williams action figure on sale for $11.99, that I just couldn’t say no to. Turns out it was actually worth $32.99, but because it got misplaced under the $11.99 row, they sold it to me for more than $20 cheaper, which was surprisingly really awesome. But anyways, back to the film. Well, it’s no Evil Dead ll by any means, that being said, I still had a lot of fun watching this. NEXT - Army Of Darkness

Just another run-of-the-mill Hollywood blockbuster movie. Completely unremarkable.

    Wow.

    Just absolutely speechless.

I’ll try to write a lengthier review once I’ve fully grasped the film, seeing that I still need to process everything that just happened, as I do with every masterpiece that I come across, but most especially this one. But for now, all that I can remark on, is that this may be the best, not to mention one of the harshest critiques on modern society, capitalism, and fascism ever put to film, or to the very least, that I’ve seen.

At first, going into Persona, my first Ingmar Bergman film, I didn’t know exactly what to expect. And now that I’ve finally seen it, I can without a doubt confirm that it deserves every ounce of praise that it has received since it’s release.

I’ve seen many people having trouble understanding what the film is about E.g. what it signifies. I personally interpret it as a meditation on identity, loneliness, and regret. By delving into these themes and issues, Persona ultimately questions…
