  Spite and seething hatred set against a beautiful, desolate landscape. Toxic self-obsession brought sharply into focus by tragedy, magnified by the mundane and an absence of melodrama. The consequence of lovelessness - and it's ultimate inconsequence.

  There are moments of genuine emotional devastation in Hereditary, and the film is full of extremely unsettling and evocative images. The slow pace, creeping camera movements and the emphasis on psychological grief and desolation worked it's magic on me and filled me full of a dread and anxiety that I haven't felt at a horror movie in a long time, if ever. However, the first two acts didn't coalesce into anything I was expecting and went more towards conventional horror…
