Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ★★★

Shang-Chi equips the mystical Ten Rings to stop his grieving father from destroying his mother’s home village, which obviously heightens the stakes to the entire world, where Cretton implants his usual dynamic introspection on social situations while refreshingly embedding wuxia fiction, Chinese fantasy and Asian representation into Marvel’s usual tedium of a CGI-heavy third act that obliterates any delicacies the plot may have had, cringe-worthy comedy and enough exposition to awaken the Dweller-in-Darkness.

Opening scene? Beautiful, by Marvel standards. The entire third act? Shang-bolic.
