    Infinity Pool

    ★★★★

Weird doesn’t begin to cover it. Infinity Pool is hypnotizing, brutal, sexy fun that presents the trademark Cronenberg sci-fi concepts in an electrifying way. The crazy kaleidoscope montages were so colorful and entrancing, not to mention Mia Goth’s unsurprisingly amazing performance. It’s an experience I think I enjoyed a bit more than Possessor, packed with unforgettable visuals and direction that leaves me anxious to see Brandon’s next project (which he teased would be space-themed at the Q&A, sounds dope!).

    The Fabelmans

    ★★★★½

The Fabelmans is such a fantastic family drama, pretty funny seeing it with my parents lmao. But, they loved it! Spielberg’s movies have such mass appeal, and I can easily see this being remembered as one of his best. On second viewing, the reveal feels so obvious, and it’s still really effective overall. Really heartwarming, got me crying in the cinema once again, I love this movie.

Just a creepy little guy being scary and weird! You love to see it. With such striking and haunting german-expressionist imagery, this is a timeless adaptation of the Dracula tale and the design is iconic. Simple but the mood it strikes is unbeatable.

    Shazam!

Shazam is what happens when someone actually has fun making a superhero movie. It’s awesome how well they sell the kid-turned-superhero gimmick, and the humor works so much better because of that. Love Sandberg’s direction.

Two A24 bangers in one week? We ATE…

Don’t know where to start. I don’t mean to sound dramatic or anything, but this was the most cathartic movie experience for me in a long time. It’s uplifting in a deeply cosmic way and it made meaning in my life for those two short hours in the dark theater. The whole multiverse plot device allows for so many absurd tangents and ridiculous subplots that I loved. It’s chaos, but if it…

I was really looking forward to this after Matt Reeves’ impressive direction in the Planet of the Apes series, and man he did not disappoint. The action is filmed so clearly and cinematically, it looks amazing. Loved the almost slow-burn detective element to it, and they really tapped into the fear aspect of Batman’s character extremely well. So many dark things are going on here and there’s plenty of scenes that would honestly feel right at home in the Saw
