Nick Lindenau’s review published on Letterboxd:
I used to watch a few Studio Ghibli films over and again yet I never saw this movie until now. I now understand why Totoro is the studio mascot. The movie he stars in is a lovely slice of life kids movie with a handful of supernatural elements. There is no grand plot, all it is just two sisters living thier life, sometimes that is all you need. It recaptured early childhood that all ages can enjoy. The film is a lighthearted fare with the occasional dark subject matter of the mother's illnes. It never loses its focus on the sisters with thier fun games with Totoro. The family feels like a real family. It avoids the typical family movie cliches to show how much they really care for each other. The animation is top notch as expected with the highlight being the cat buss. I can see why Miyazaki gravitated on this movie because it is the ide word that he wishes to see.
