"I've been condemned to live."
Through no fault of its own, I couldn't help but compare The Quiet Earth to the still under-appreciated Fox series Last Man on Earth whose plot is very similar to this film's (until it isn't). If I missed that show's infectious sense of humor while watching this though, it's because Earth almost does too good a job conveying how unfunny and terrifying global isolation would really be. Particularly in the early running, it's an unnerving exploration of what true unadulterated loneliness can do to a mind. The rest is compelling enough, with plenty of well-realized spectacle that is all the more impressive considering the otherwise sheer absence of...everything.
P.S. In case anyone was wondering, yes, this is yet another eerily appropriate quarantine watch 😬.
