    About Endlessness

Though I didn't like this as much as Andersson's previous film "A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence," I still love Andersson's cold, sterile style. What can I say other than if you're a fan of his other movies, then you'll like this one. If you really hate his other films, then you won't like this.

For me, it was a simple, poetic movie about life. By the end, I had an idea of a whole, even though…

To think that Herzog edited this film in only 6 weeks...

As always, Herzog proves himself to be one of the most humanist directors to ever live. He explores the relationship between man and nature as well as the relationship between man and the nature of man. He doesn't shy away from Treadwell's weaknesses and this film is by no means an advertisement for Grizzly People. What he gives us is an honest, if disturbing, portrait of a man who…

The best horror film about old age.

Easily my favorite movie of 2020. It made me feel drunk, hungover, depressed, and joyful. It's a rollercoaster of emotions with dynamic performances by legendary Danish actors. I had high expectations when I saw that it was a film by Thomas Vinterberg and that he co-wrote it with Tobias Lindholm, but this movie even exceeded thos high expectations. I could watch this movie over and over and over again.

Really solid film. I love the techniscope cinematography and Riz Ahmed's great performance, but the real star of this film is the sound design. Stellar stuff.

I like slow movies but I hate dull movies. I was able to watch all 7.5 hours of Satantango in one go and feel captivated the entire time. However, this movie, though being less than a third the length of Satantango, felt three times longer. It was a painful, grueling experience in the cinema and I should have left. I kept watching in the hopes that it would get better.

    It didn’t.

I wasn't expecting this film to hit so close to home. Wong Kar Wai masterfully shows love and the isolation that happens after love is lost. I know what it's like to have thought you found the love of your life only for it to all go south. It makes every other relationship feel meaningless and futile. Escaping into one's own work, one's one fictional world, is preferred.

Love is all about timing. It's no good to find true love…

    Some notes:
    - I predicted the exact plot of this movie MONTHS ago
    - I live in Pensacola. The movie's version of "Pensacola" is nothing like the real town
    - Were there EVA references in this film or was it just me?
    - I can't remember anything about any of the human characters
    - The most interesting character in the whole film was Kong
    - I forgot about the movie the second the credits rolled

The kaiju fights were fun but, overall, my review of this film is...

  • Arabian Nights

    Arabian Nights

    ★★★★

This is the final part in Pasolini's Trilogy of Life. Although I enjoyed it very much and I loved how it played around with frame narrative, I didn't enjoy it quite as much as The Decameron or The Canterbury Tales. It's possible that I'm just closer to those stories since I grew up with them and not with 1001 Arabian Nights.

If you like Pasolini and you don't mind seeing a lot of nudity, I'd highly recommend this.
