Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker 2019
i was pretty hung over and sometimes that, like, opens up my heart in a way that makes me both vulnerable and nostalgic so, uh, i really liked it. like, the rey and kylo scenes were great and, yeah, the first 15 minutes i almost had a seizure but i liked it a lot. i ... i think i love it. whatever. who cares. art is subjective. and i think it’s a lot better than last jedi whatever okay?

The Last Black Man in San Francisco 2019
visually inspired and humble take on race and male friendship and toxicity.
the first ten minutes i was blown away by the visuals but once i sunk into it i started asking myself what’s going on a few too many times. -

Waves 2019
it’s possible this one changes. like it’s name, this movie comes over you in waves. some are small and some are big and then sometimes one crashes down on you so hard that you think for a second you’re going to drown. all this to say, it’s a beautiful poem film, but i’m not sure that it works completely. but if sterling and renee don’t get nominated for their performances then what are we doing here!?

The Laundromat 2019
I had a good time.

El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie 2019
one of the best dark comedies in recent memory. also just great to hang in the breaking bad world for an extra two hours.

Hustlers 2019
hell yes!
Scafaria directs the hell out of this movie. from the colors to the music to (most of) the performances this movie just plain rocks. the more i think about it the more i fall in love with keke palmers insane performance. the story is killer and Scafaria does an amazing job keeping it together. J-Lo is so fucking hot and her intro is the best of the year by far; when she comes in you’re not sure if you’re…

Tenement 1985
this is punk rock.
80’s new york tenement gets taken over by the baddest gang members you could imagine. none of them have a moral compass, it’s awesome. one scene is not for the faint of heart and is way too cringe inducing for the times (and for the 80s) natch.
first roberta findlay film i’ve seen, i’m not gonna do a deep dive, but i’m glad i saw this one.
as for story, was shocked how well the movie…
