Joe Lynch’s review published on Letterboxd:
Musical masterpiece.
Armed with the great DP Jordan Cronenweth and a band where every single member drips with stage presence, Demme’s early effort may be The Best Concert Film Ever.
Bold I know, but considering it doesn’t rely on crowd shots at all (save a sporadic angle or two) every moment is compelling you wish it could just be that hauntingly lit wide shot the entire time to soak in every member of TH doing their thing.
Every band should be lucky enough to have an auteur capture them like this and any filmmaker should pray to collaborate with musicians this talented.
A perfect, unexpected symbiosis of cinema and music.
