Jack’s review published on Letterboxd:
Oh, Cuarón. How do you consistently disappoint me? Technical aspects aside this unfortunately just didn’t do it for me. Overlong, tedious, tad bit emotionally manipulative and while the cinematography is great, as with most black and white films I just can’t help but feel it’d be so much better in colour - especially when there’s no actual need for it. I do respect the fact these are his memories, and they are beautiful ones at that, but for me they just didn’t translate quite well onto screen. I’m sure it’ll click with a lot of people, i just wasn’t one of them. Yalitza’s performance is golden though, shoutout to her.
