The first 70 minutes of this dragggeddddd we genuinely considered walking out, which I know should be unforgivable. but I'm a sucker for hamlet (yeah yeah sure this is based on the original legend) and it will happen again. the vengeful prince of this film is rather one-dimensional, but robert eggers is my new best friend for running with my favourite gertrude interpretation. plus everything was just too gorgeous I can't not love it. alexander skarsgard and anya taylor joy had no chemistry, yet it still gutted me to see an ending (one of a few too many) dangled before me where they just leave it all behind, only to be pulled back. the witch and the lighthouse were massive disappointments but I'm glad I gave this one a chance. the volcano duel was fucking sick.
