watched this almost immediately after watching "fitzcarraldo" and while i loved the former, "goonies" is easily the more insane of the two movies

been haunted by this one since i saw it. not as well known but another terrific, uncomfortable performance from the late great phil hoffman as a man in a unique position to take his addiction to truly insane lengths, but who's too private and controlled to ever really explode even as his life unravels and the stakes literally get higher and higher

Fantastic Mr. Fox 2009
i saw this the same day i saw spike jonze's "where the wild things are", in november of 2009, at the theater in my town. i sometimes have trouble seeing what a great deal of others seem to see in wes anderson's movies, and burl ives' lovely song "buckeye jim" is misused in the film, but i'm very fond of this and i've seen it many times. i haven't watched "where the wild things are" since i saw it that day in november
