Punch-Drunk Love

Punch-Drunk Love ★★★★★

The only PTA film without any weight on its shoulders, bearing neither the import of history nor the pathological need to be the young prince of Hollywood. Instead, it's as free and wild as a movie about liberation should be, crafting a world of outsized danger and the most beautiful colors ever captured on film, where even the saddest aspects of modern California living come to life like never before. It's the rare transitional film that might be the person's masterpiece, he's only grown more as a director since this but nothing can compare to how this makes you swoon even as you cringe.
