Knives Out was a clever and hilarious take on the lately untouched whodunnit genre. It also kind of flips the mystery on its head by revealing the majority of the “truth” early in it’s run time. But the film still remains cunning in its execution because there is much more to the “truth” then you could expect. It perfectly pokes fun at the tropes of the genre while also playing with them in a very fun and inventive way. The performances from this ensemble cast were all very good as-well. The highlights for me were Daniel Craig, Toni Collette and Chris Evans. Ana De Armas also does a great job in her lead performance. She balances not knowing what to do or how to react while also being very clever perfectly. Which is perfect for this character since she is caught directly in the middle of the mystery. A couple of characters do feel a little useless though. Some of them having little to no lines at all and are just there to make fun of. The jokes land but they didn’t need to be there. This film was highly entertaining though and I could recommend this to basically anyone. It will keep you laughing and guessing through it’s 2 hour and 10 minute run time and to me that’s a good time at the theater.
