A child is told the story of the genie who grants three wishes. Invited to speculate upon what he would wish for in such a situation, the child does not use a wish to satisfy his most fervent heart’s desire, but instead exults in his own cleverness, revealing what he believes to be a loophole: “I would wish for infinite wishes!” This is the essence of the human failing.
