    Best example of 'the real monster is Dr. F', and a little more staid than I remembered. Loved the gothic storybook vibe, as much down to Asher's contribution as Fisher's. The central performances are excellent, close to career best for Cushing, obv, but wow Lee really brings the pathos.

    Wow! Has an ambitiousness, originality & narrative flamboyance that one associates with the more interesting Euro productions from the same period. The production values are pretty low. It's a great, lonely, last-gasp-of-the-summer-of-love movie as well as being one of the best examples of the Lovecraftian in cinema. See also: Daughter of Horror & Carnival of Souls.
