I don't get why many people critique this as "mere escapism". Are you kidding me? Escapism, for most of the time, is the very reason I watch so many movies. And Wes Anderson is the master of escapism. This stop-motion film does it with so much charme, nuanced humor, an extraordinary voice cast, great music (Alexandre Desplat and of course, Beach Boys!) and incredible attention to detail; it's witty, it's quirky, it's self-aware, it's thoughtful and most importantly it's just FUN.
Wes Anderson's style resonates so much with me and I believe no one is able to make movies for everyone of every age quite like him. His films are just a joy to watch. Oh, Isle of Dogs, get ready, you're up next.
