I'm tempted to just type the lyrics of Dokken's song as my review. After rushing part 2, I think they realized here what actually worked in the first one. The result is Dream Warriors, which is essentially a direct sequel to the original film and probably the best movie in the series. It's a tighter story and a more likable group of characters than in the first film and the whole dream warrior concept is pretty clever (although the Wizard Master probably should have rethought his persona).
The gore effects and deaths are really well done for the time and this is probably the most definitive version of Freddy, both in terms of look and being the best balance of scary and funny. It's not all great, as the acting is hit or miss (*cough* Heather Langenkamp), but this is basically Freddy making it to primetime bitch. It also gets an extra half a star for the way that Kincaid says motherfucker.
