Oh, everyone in the film community is going to hate me for this, but after so many people put this film in their top five for 2015, I went in with high expectations and came out a bit boggled. Yes, it's beautifully shot and the acting is terrific, but it's so sleepy and languid and protracted and muffled. This feels like the kind of weepy but self-important film that usually gets hand-waved by the critical community as a respectable awards-bait prestige project, and I'm not seeing whatever about it made it the best movie of the year for so many people.
