Taryll Baker’s review published on Letterboxd:
Encanto is another vibrant tale of family and healing from Disney. With wonderful characters and a familiar but heartwarming story, it’s a little disappointing that the music doesn’t quite hit — though there are one or two decent songs. Lin’s writing was a lot stronger in Moana a few years back, but it’s still nice to hear his recognisable pen-to-paper voice as he navigates through his now incredibly busy career.
Best character for me was Bruno played by the brilliant John Leguizamo, and of course Stephanie Beatriz is the perfect Mirabel. Encanto is well-paced, funny and super stunning to look at, and holds a lovely message. But if you’re looking forward to more Disney songs to get hooked on, you may be left unsatisfied.
