  • Mandy

Mandy has improved with every viewing. I’ve also gotten to watch it in a better environment each time. It’s always best to do so, but make sure you play this big, and loud. It’s the only way it’s meant to be seen.

Saying a film “isn’t perfect” feels redundant, I mean, it’s art. Somehow art can always be perfect if the creator executes their vision without losing sight or passion, even if there’s compromise with departments or finances, and even…

    The Roaring Twenties

No great film is too long, but sometimes one can be too short. I hate to say The Roaring Twenties has flaws, because I love it so much. It moves at neck breaking pace and never lets up, and sometimes I wish it would slow down for just a second to let it’s more somber tones deep into my bones.

I saw the end of this first in A Personal Journey through American Cinema with Martin Scorcese, and I’m glad…

“Do us a favor, scratch my nose?”

Can’t get much cuter than that, but don’t let that fool you. This movie is equal parts gritty and rough to match the silly and sweet heart of this film. Imagine Taxi Driver but he’s not mentally ill, just an ex-con whose in love.

I loved this, but I think I’ll like it more on my next watch. Not sure why. I think there were times I had a hard time reading the situation,…

    Bones and All

I think the last time I saw Badlands, I felt a little bit astranged from the characters. I used to kinda idolize them as a rebellious odd couple but years later it felt cold to me. I think that was a good thing though.

In Bones and All, you kind of get let right in. They say how they feel and talk about things, how healthy of them. It’s well performed, well shot, but for me maybe not so well written.…

    The Outside

The lowest rated so far, but honestly the best of the bunch yet. This idea isn’t original, but the execution is masterful. Wide close ups providing for a really grotesque look and feminine beauty and obsession, and a great lead actress playing a pitiful ugly duckling. Like i said, we’ve seen this before, but maybe not this good.

I’m sure it’s being glazed over because it’s the least spooky of the bunch. But it’s better.
