Aftersun

Aftersun ★★★★

Recollection of one's personal memory, the use of mixed-media, period nostalgia and a tender relationship with hidden intricacies drive Charlotte Wells' debut 'Aftersun'. Starring Paul Mescal and newcomer Frankie Corio, the film follows a young father/daughter holiday trip, where both individuals go through their own coming-of-age realisations of various capacities. With a non-conventional narrative formulation, the ambiguity and tension of the characters' states build strategically. Wells' carefully constructs a relationship drama, commenting on various personal themes and motifs, where a universality for all shines.
