In one word -
Terrifying!
A rewatch last night, 'Hereditary' did what it did to me in the cinema, scared the sh*t outta me! Without needing to rely on expensive CGI and jump scares, the film slowly builds up its tension to a shocking finale that gave me nightmares.
Examining grief, (played brilliantly by Toni Collette) and the emotions associated with it, the movie isn't horror alone, but also falls in the genre of drama. A loss of a mother, then a loss of a daughter, tears her character into tiny pieces that are impossible to reassemble, and leaves her in a broken state of despair.
All cast play their parts perfectly, the soundtrack is fitting and the special effects are impressive.
5/5.
