    Barbie

It’s hard to quantify exactly what this one did for me. Of course I expected to enjoy it but I wasn’t anticipating it to make me wrestle with my own connection to femininity, or the idea that I have to do SOMETHING and know EXACTLY what that something is in order to have value. Depression Barbie and the Matchbox 20 needle drop were both highlights for me personally.

I’ll be thinking about this one for a long time. - Brittani

    Past Lives

Hard to imagine the year ends without this one ending up on my list of favorites. I loooooooooved this one. Incredibly romantic and sexy despite the deliberate decision to keep physical intimacy to a low profile... Wow! Made with such cultural specificity yet somehow still feels universal. There's going to be people out there who watch it and feel as if the missing puzzle piece of their lives somehow made it to screen. So much to say and not just about love and romance. I'm still beaming. I love movies. - Andrew

    Sanctuary

Goooooood stuff! I really enjoyed this one immensely. Christopher Abbott was born to play the spoiled, sensitive, borderline pathetic guy and this role fit him like a glove. I say that with the utmost respect for his acting ability, the man went to town.

One of those erotic thrillers that gets your blood running less with what's shown on screen but more so by how it's shown, slowly built up through chemistry and desire.

Anywho, I'm still riding this high. After what's felt like a mini-dry spell of less than rewarding in-theater watches I'm back, baby! - Andrew

  • Moulin Rouge!

    Moulin Rouge!

I don't care if it's hyperbolic, but this was/is a movie that makes me believe in the magic of movies. I could rewatch it every day for the rest of time and never get sick of it. - Brittani

I'm also afraid of how good this movie was to me! I really enjoyed how comedic Ari was while also simultaneously juggling every emotion that comes with an existential crisis. - Aidee
