i hate it when i think i’m going to love a movie, only to like it. and even then, liking it isn’t exactly the term i would use. licorice pizza is plotless, and i could live with that (i love a slice of life movie!) had the characters, their relationships, the way they interact and communicate, and the context of the world in which they existed, all of which the film relies upon, been something worth watching. the aesthetic and atmosphere, the cinematography and music, the costume and production design all make licorice pizza a worthwhile watch once, but i don’t think i’ll ever rewatch this.
