Seeing Avatar (2009) in IMAX 3D was something I had to do. What an incredible spectacle. This re-release is the best the film has ever looked for me. And the sound! I haven’t heard anything like it in a cinema before. Oh and my original concerns about the visuals for the sequel have all but disappeared after a sneak preview during the end credits. Utterly spellbinding. I will say this though, James Cameron needs a standout hook for the plot. Another tale of man’s destruction of nature simply won’t cut it. If he gets this right it will be the defining factor if this new movie is to be heralded a complete success. It won’t be because of the visuals alone.
