I Saw the Devil

I Saw the Devil ★★★★★

Wow, this film is really brilliant. A heartstopping, edge-of-seat, gut-wrenchingly intense revenge thriller. Probably the best revenge movie I've seen.
Lead stars Lee Byung-Hun and Choi Min-Sik both give fantastic and powerful performances, overflowing with emotion and anguish.
Choi Min-Sik's portrayal of the serial killer is outstanding. He's not your charming Hollywood type who oozes his way into his victims' lives with flashy talk and charisma, he's just plain ugly in every sense. His character has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. He's arrogant, rude, creepy, perverse, domineering, and utterly insane. A total contrast to Lee Byung-Hun's vengeful security agent, who is, for the most part, a cool, calculating, righteous sword of moral justice.

This film features some great set-pieces that move at a break-neck pace, and shows that director Kim Jee-Woon is a real master when it comes to thrills and suspense.
This is a superb thriller that has style and substance to spare.
The only possible downside to this is I can see Hollywood trying to remake this sometime in the near future and fucking it all up. Please Hollywood, just leave this one alone, it's perfect.
