Where the Crawdads Sing felt like one of those late 00s to early 10s romantic dramas that were huge back then. Very soap opera in its drama, very cliche in its romance between Kya and two very similar looking white men she’s attracted to, very melodramatic in its courtroom moments. And I ate every moment of it up.
Daisy Edgar-Jones is fantastic. I could have done without the two abuse scenes that are included in this, but they’re not as bad as others I’ve seen recently. But Edgar-Jones does a powerful job in delivering her reaction to that abuse, it was quite empowering to see. David Strathairn does a great job as Kya’s lawyer, his closing statement monologue was delivered really well. Taylor John Smith was fine, I just found him really attractive so he was always a pleasure to see on screen.
