Judas and the Black Messiah

Judas and the Black Messiah ★★★★

Today this film is leaving HBO Max so I forced myself to watch it. Why force? Because, despite knowing how good it'd be, I am still enraged and grieving over Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and countless others killed by cops. 50+ years later and why the f*ck are we still here with this sh*t?

I am exhausted, and I'm just an ally. I was born in 1967. The more things change the more they stay the same, eh? It's soul-crushing. We know that may off-duty cops were insurrectionists on Jan. 6. Clearly no "reforms" have made any difference. Senator Johnson actually said he would have been more afraid if it had been BLM --the racism is the point. White supremacy is so insidious.

Anyway, I rage cried through the whole film. The performances were excellent. Dominique Fishback deserves a lot more attention. Her scenes with Kaluuya were my favorites. Speaking of which, I'm glad he'll win an Oscar, but it's in the f-ing title, he is a co-lead with Stanfield. I think Lakeith Stanfield is one of our finest actors, and my god did I loathe his character.

Sorry for the rant, but I am really raw after a year of quarantine and feeling trapped.
