robert eggers takes the revenge story, wraps it in furs, bathes it in blood, and sets it in front of us like a newly discovered gem. although it doesn't quite have the introspective heft of the vvitch or the lighthouse, it's invigorating to see what an artist like eggers can do with a big budget historical epic.
