• Dear Evan Hansen

    Dear Evan Hansen

I went and saw Dear Evan Hansen today. Directed by Stephen Chbosky and based on the award winning play, the film stars Ben Platt as Evan Hansen. Evan is a teen struggling with anxiety who after a tragedy and misunderstanding, tells a series of lies that escalate and impact his family and classmates in unexpected ways. Dear Evan Hansen may be the most polarizing and divisive film of the year as it has received a lot of negative responses to…

  • Angel-A

I just finished watching Angel-A (2005). Directed by Luc Besson, the film stars Jamel Debbouze and Rie Rasmussen. It's about a man struggling with his life and deep in debt who meets a beautiful and mysterious woman who helps him get his life together and solve his problems. I enjoyed this. I really liked the beautiful black and white cinematography. I thought both Debbouze and Rasmussen were very good in their performances. This was an interesting and entertaining story, told in a charming, playful way that really worked for me.

  • Tower

I just finished watching Tower (2016). Directed by Keith Maitland, this documentary uses animation and archival footage to tell the true story of a sniper firing from the tower of the University of Texas on August 1, 1966. I thought it was an interesting way to tell the story and for me it worked well. This is a powerful and compelling film and I feel it honours and respects the survivors and heroes of that day. I also appreciated that they didn't focus on the guman.

  • Cry Macho

    Cry Macho

I just got back from seeing Cry Macho at Landmark Cinemas. Directed by and starring the legendary Clint Eastwood, this is a lovely and well made film. Eastwood is very good here and the story is told in a charming and effective way. There are some really nice little moments throughout that help elevate the film. Although I wouldn't consider this one of Eastwood's best films, it is still a very worthwhile one. My rating is an 8/10.

  • Malignant

I went and saw Malignant today. I liked it. I thought the performances were pretty good. There was some good suspense, thrills and mystery. There was some moments and elements that stretched believability and some unanswered questions left, but overall I was satisfied and entertained. I wouldn't consider this James Wan's best film, but likely in his top 3. Although Malignant doesn't make my current top 10 of the year, it would likely be in top 20. This is the…

I just finished watching Overcomer. Directed by Alex Kendrick, the film stars Kendrick as a high school basketball coach who coaches a teen in long distance running. I enjoyed this a lot. It's a feel good and inspiring story. Aryn Wright-Thompson is very likeable and charming in her film debut as the teen runner. My rating is an 8/10.
