The Godfather is the best organized crime film of all time, along with its counterpart of a sequel. Not only are the films timeless, they helped shape every crime film to follow. The portrait of a baptism creating The Godfather, intercut with all of the Corleone family’s enemies simultaneously being brought to their knees. The shot of an open doorway where Michael Corleone takes the throne, the weight pressing down on all involved. Everything is warm and joyous until it is not, the romanticism bleeding into realism. This is the American dream.
