Ethan Woods’s review published on Letterboxd:
I largely feel the same way about this as I do Godzilla KoM. The visuals are outstanding but the dialogue is just so hard to hear (“Anti War photographer.”) There’s a million great actors in this thing but there aren’t any actual characters. This hits hardest in the more desperate and lazy stabs at creating identities for the bodies on screen (“I’ve taken enough photos of mass graves to recognize one.”)
I’m certainly not the guy to critique writing but when there’s absolutely nothing to grab onto it’s hard not to be bothered by it. And Kong’s screen time isn’t much more than Godzilla’s in 2014, so what’s the point. Not a fan of this one.
Absolutely incredible vfx though. But I must add, I’m still having a hard time taking Tom Hiddleston seriously after that golden globes speech
