I adore this movie. The fact that BLG is the first film produced in San Andres-Providencia creole, a language only spoken on a few small islands off the coast of Columbia is an interesting enough hook on its own. But this is actually a really fun kids adventure story in the vein of The Goonies or Hunt for the Wilderpeople. Corn and his sister Rita are two teenaged siblings growing up in a tourist town on a small Caribbean island…

A brilliant little feel-good movie. Gorgeous setting, masterfully shot and filled to the brim with charming characters. Bad Lucky Goat delights with its simplicity.

A gliding, casually sublime chronicle of bad decisions that pivots on unusually modest but relatable stakes. You forget how rough it is to be a teenager in the world.

Also: Nosy fucking hackers notwithstanding, Kanopy is proof positive that socialism works.

Viktoria is a deeply visceral exploration of the outward and inward conflicts of womanhood. It sets these against the equally turbulent conflicts within communist life, playing with the unfair absurdity of both.

Finally, after 3 years, I can watch my favorite movie from Sundance 2014 again, and it still actually (mostly) holds up! That surprised me in a good way. Lots of really gorgeous cinematography and music, but a couple of places drag more then I remember them doing. Still, I'm glad this got released at all in the US. I was kind of worried it wouldn't get a release here and I wouldn't see it again.

painful. not because it is slow, taking its time to unfurl - because it is about being unwanted and existing inside that void. it's about the way womanhood is affected by its surroundings and always has been. how dreams that stay only concepts become a powerful poison. painful.

beautifully shot; not a scene wasted. the moments that employed music were so greatly affecting i wished they were scattered more generously throughout the film. the scene where it rains milk on boryana is one of the most gorgeous scenes i have ever seen in all of my twenty years on earth.
