Asteroid City 2023
Blown away by this. So relieved I got to catch it before it leaves cinemas ever too quickly (thank god for second run theatres, s/o The Fox!) but I really feel like this might be his best, or rather than best, his most cumulative work in a very meaningful way. About 20 minutes before the film ends there is a momentary collapse of all sounds. I don't think I've ever heard silence quite like it. I could hear my heart throbbing in my ears -- a painful sting coupled with a quiet panic as my senses became temporarily heightened and numbed all at once. A brief glimpse into passing?
