I envy anyone who gets to watch this film for the first time. Arrival provides a wondrous journey, an emotional shock, and an unforgettable experience. With that being said, I showed this film to my sister this weekend as she had never seen it. This was my 3rd rewatch and I need to say, it only gets better upon rewatches. I've bumped up my score every time I rewatch it and I'm happy to say it truly belongs in the…
I had a bagel this morning so that was my motivation for watching this today.
Oh gosh, I am completely blown away. Shiva Baby provides for a tense and comedic experience as it juggles several sensitive topics in a chaotic yet subtle manner. I was impressed by the depth of feeling in this film. It was a reminder of how parents see what they want to see and choose the simplistic narrative of their children's lives. There are many moments…
Whatever you say, Cruella...
I usually go into Disney live-action adaptations with extremely low expectations, but after many positive reviews I heard from friends, I was really excited to check this out. From some of the pictures and the posters, this seemed right up my alley and it definitely was. This was so much fun! A beautifully and artistically styled film that sets the mood for the dark and cynical title character, Cruella just feels rebellious and makes you want…
Ratatouille "rat" count: 25
The Departed "rat" count: 16 (close enough)
My sister watched this for the first time on Sunday (my second viewing). She was absolutely loving the film until the last 15 minutes or so and proceeded to say "I hate this movie so much" repeatedly until the credits rolled. She was SO ANGRY. However, 2 hours after the film ended (enough time to think and reflect), she went on to rate the movie a 10/10. I love how bipolar and indecisive she gets after watching good movies. But yeah this movie SLAPS. I liked it even better upon rewatch.
Soul is the love child of Coco and Inside Out with a dash of existentialism and jazz.
Also here’s a La La Land reference for good measure:
Joe Gardener thinks he’s really cute in his polyester suit, wait no it’s wool
P.S. it was really cool how Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross played around with their score. If anyone noticed, they used upbeat and sometimes mellow jazz during the scenes on Earth and more electronic music during the scenes in The Great Before (the land of soul). 10/10 use of music and parallels.
P.P.S. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! 🎄
