    The Million Eyes of Sumuru


    Tries really hard to be groovy, and sometimes it briefly pays off, but for the most part the wise cracking duds Frankie Avalon and George Nader are so cringe and unfunny it can be painful to watch. The soundtrack is cool, so cool it was regurgitated in several other films, Shirley Eaton is having fun and Klaus Kinski's wildly eccentric turn as President Boong is unmissable. It is of course utter campy crap, but I knew that before pressing play and one day I will press play again (and again).

    You couldn't move for mad scientists in the 30s and 40s, Lionel Atwill's Dr Benson, or his malevolently monikored alter ego Graham, believes he can bring the dead back to life, and when he gets shipwrecked on a native island he has a willing tribe upon which to conduct his dastardly experiments.
