Judas and the Black Messiah

Judas and the Black Messiah ★★★★

Judas and the Black Messiah is an incredibly powerful film. This story is absolutely fascinating and I don’t think it could have come out at a more relevant time. I think that the black panther party is one of the most fascinating groups in history and I’m so glad that this film portrays the movement in a complex manner. Daniel Kaluuya and Lakeith Stanfield absolutely kill it in their roles. They should definitely be nominated for an Oscar. The cinematography also really blew me away. There are some really simple but very effective camera techniques that display great visual story telling. There is a reoccurring motif of shot with clashing blue and red light that conveys the torn nature of the character that I found incredibly compelling. This is definitely worth a watch whether on HBO or in a theater (if it’s safe in your area of course)
