I hadn’t seen this in such a long time. Biggest indicator was realising that the theme for the You Must Remember This podcast was lifted from As Time Goes By. The haunting song that flitters around as a memory of Rick (Bogey) and Ilsa’s (Bergman) romance. Nevertheless, rewatching it all unfold reminded me why this is heralded as a classic. Great score, story and performances.

There’s some daft fun stuff here, but again it leans even further into Roger Moore era James Bond territory. I enjoy those films, don’t get me wrong. But does it really apply to Shaft? Overall you feel the Gordon Parks shaped hole which adds to its decline in quality. Its fun but quite messy.

One of my favourites of the year so far. It has a big wholesome heart that both moved me and tickled me with laughter. Kelly O’Sullivan is fantastic and would like to see more from her.

Although I had issues with the lead’s performance and pacing, those last 20mins really solidified this as a whole. Really good showcase for Garland’s talents as a sci-fi film maker. Also, this series underlined why you cast Nick Offerman in a role like this. Alison Pill, Stephen Henderson and Zack Grenier were great as well. Feels like a warm bath of chin stroking sci-fi. Contemplating themes of free will and the bigger picture.
