Probably the most competently directed piece of christian propaganda ever. My friend said that m night as a director just kinda takes random what if scenarios then makes a movie about them and thats why i like his films so much i think, how he can create such a romantic and haunting world surrounding such stupid and simplistic fundamentals. Great.

Take me back to the good old days when people didn't think these movies were cinema or not and we simply just had fun with our little heist movie

One of best looking movies I've ever seen. I absolutely adore the gray color palette. Just flat and lifeless just how my eyes like to see it

    Daniel PG Simpson

★★½ Watched by Daniel PG Simpson 24 Jan 2023

To Empire of Light's credit, I was more engaged in the story as it was playing out than I expected to be, but there's no denying it's a mess, and I get why even a lot of the more positive reviews are marked by faint praise. Fundamentally, Mendes bites off more than he can chew. The film wants to be a love-letter to cinemagoing, an exploration of mental health struggles, and a white reckoning with the rise of anti-black racism…

The way this movie manages to capture not just a time and place, but the very spirit of it before reconciling with the fact that the past is gone forever is beautiful and loving. The right kind of nostaligia.

    M. Night should make movies from now until the end of time. If anyone else's name was attached, this would be getting universal praise

    Dir: Mario Van Peebles
Starring: Wesley Snipes, Ice-T, Judd Nelson, Allen Payne, Chris Rock

"Scotty help me! This movie was wild!"

Have you ever seen a movie you haven't seen in a very long time, so rewatching it was like watching a new movie? That was me with New Jack City.

Holy shit, this movie was way more wild than I remember it being! Some of the damn lines in this movie man!

    "I wanna shoot…

Iconic on its own , This one will always have me shook for what they did to Pookie but still great movie with Ice T and Snipes in there prime.

It has been so long since I have seen this movie and wtf! I remember the movie using a blackploitation lens to really reveal the absurdity of gang and drug war fare, but JESUS CHRIST THIS MOVIE WAS MORE INSANE THAN I REMEMBER. Ice T was a mood at times 😂😎

Letterboxd still looking white as hell btw 🤨🤭🧐
