Slipthrough Dan’s review published on Letterboxd:
Despite its marketing, 'Northman' is more akin to 'Braveheart' than '300'. Primal & bestial, it's also beautiful. Cinematic, scenes often play out from a master shot (using the golden ratio). Far from still, the camera pushes & pulls, like breathing. Eggers isn't a director, he's our guide. A stunning long-take scales a wall alongside our hero and follows him during a raid. Action isn't rapid edits & close-ups to cheat excitement, the fighting is frightening with realism. Essentially, a simple revenge story executed well (pun intended), fueled by a volcanic performance from Skarsgard. Double-bill this with 'Green Knight'.
